Description

Hyacinthoides,
Queen of Pinks

Native to the Mediterranean region, Hyacinthoides are also known as Scilla and commonly known as English or Spanish Bluebells. The plants were introduced into Europe centuries ago and became enormously popular especially in Britain where they are literally a national symbol of spring.

Queen of the pinks is now recommended as a good alternative to the retired heirloom Dainty Maid.  Queen of the pinks, also an heirloom, was introduced in 1944.  It has deeper pink florets than Dainty Maid.  It is best planted in cluster of a least 10 bulbs.  The plants are generally deer proof and are excellent naturalizers.
