Pagoda

Erythronium is also known as the Dogtooth Violet and the Trout Lily. Pagoda is native to central California in the foot hills of the Sirrera Navada where it grounds in the woods of pine and evergreen oak at elevations of 1,650 feet.  Pagoda is one of the tallest of the Erythroniums and some growers have reported finding as many as 10 flowers on a single stem, but 4 to 5 flowers is more normal.  This perennial is a great pollinator plant, excellent for shade gardens, and deer resistant.  It is best when planted in clusters of at least 5 bulbs.  The plant is a member of the Lily family grown as much for its beautiful, oval leaves with blotches of red and brown as for its dainty flower. The plants prefer rich, moist soil and light shade. They are deer proof.
